LEROS NEWS : Adaptation of the Municipal Port Fund of Leros to the new Schengen requirements”


A broad meeting was held on 21/10/2019 at the offices of the Municipal Port Fund of Leros on the implementation of the increased requirements for border controls on implementation of the Entry-Exit System (EES) of Regulation (EU) 2017/2226. The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Leros Mr Michalis Kolias, the President of the Leros Municipal Port Fund Mr Nektarios Billis, the Commander of the Leros Police Department Mrs Athina Koutsodonti, the Governor of the Leros Port Authority Mr George Riggas, the Leros Customs Representative Mr Ioannais Vaggelis and the NEXT PLUS Security Consultants Mr Konstantinos Kavdas and Mr Marinos Kraniotis providing specialized services to the Leros Municipal Port Fund.

At the meeting, the Security Consultants presented an adaptation proposal that, following an interactive discussion and constructive proposals, was unanimously accepted and will be imprinted on a topographic chart with an indicative budget for approval by the Leros Municipal Port Fund Board of Directors and be submitted for final approval to the Hellenic Police, the Independent Public Revenue Office  and the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy.

Concluding the meeting, both the Mayor and the President of the Leros Municipal Port Fund, acknowledging the benefits of the so far operation of the Entrance-Exit Point, as the main driver for tourism development in Leros, stressed that no one should jeopardize its operation, stating that they will take all necessary steps to adapt it to the new requirements, while they are already in the process of exploring new collaborations for the further development of tourism in Leros.
